Overview
About Indo-UK Oncology Summit 2017
The Indo British Health Initiative (IBHI) organised the biggest ever Indo-UK Oncology Summit 1n Chennai on 15th & 16th December 2017.
The conference which is a combined initiative between the Indo British Health Initiative (IBHI) and the Christie Oncology Hospital Manchester was held on the 15th and 16th of December 2017. The conference focused on recent advances in oncology with emphasis on the different sub specialties that encompass it. India is facing an increasing incidence of cancer and the partnership with the Christie Hospital will enable transfer of new techniques along with educational opportunities for aspiring oncologists.
The conference had sessions highlighting the advances in organ based treatment along with a live operating session. Experts from the length and breadth of the country along with international experts delivered lectures and conducted workshops.
Participants had the opportunity to experience the entire spectrum of cancer care delivery. Postgraduates had a student session which gave them an experience of how education in oncology is conducted in the United Kingdom.
Background
The Indo British Health Initiative aims to promote scientific collaboration between healthcare personnel in the United Kingdom and India. It also seeks to facilitate more UK higher education partnerships and business opportunities for UK commercial firms in the healthcare sector in India. The IBHI foundation was mainly formed to facilitate and channelise these initiatives.
IBHI was established in December, 2011 by Dr. Prithvi Mohandas, Founder and Secretary – IBHI

Collaboration between IBHI & Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh
The IBHI in collaboration with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh has been instrumental in establishing a preparatory course for the FRCS International Examination in General Surgery at MIOT Hospitals, Chennai. The course which is conducted by teaching faculty from the United Kingdom and India is held over three days and helps candidates to prepare for the viva and clinical part of the FRCS International examination. The course has been conducted for the past two years and candidates from countries in the Middle East and across Asia have participated in the course and several candidates have successfully passed the FRCS International examination.

IBHI Grand Oncology Quiz
To challenge participants on how well they understand cancers, the various causes, regional impacts, dietary habits, lifestyle influence and prevention measures to impact society at large.
Eligibility: Post Graduates in all specialities of Medicine & Surgery
Rewards: The winning team was awarded with cash prize of Rs. 15,000
IBHI Young Innovator Award
An inspiring award to encourage budding talents – young scientists below the age of 40 from clinical sciences or basic sciences in the field of Oncology – who could provide a spring board to a new technology, protocol or therapy that may assist to change the perception of cancer care.
Participants submitted their papers which was scrutinized by the committee and the top 5 was presented at the summit.
Eligibility:
- Age – Below 40 Years
- Open to healthcare professionals, PG students (medical or non-medical), scientists and health educators involved in oncology.
Rewards:
The best innovator received a cash award of Rs. 50,000
