INDO-UK Diabetes Summit

18th Jan 2013

The Indo-British Diabetes Summit was held on the 18th and 19th of January 2013, at the Taj Coromandel, Chennai. It was organised by the collaborative efforts of IBHI and the British Deputy High Commission, Chennai, to take on the challenge of dealing with the dramatic increase of diabetes in India and in the UK.

The event attracted leading experts from across all verticals of the diabetes domain, and served as a platform for the participants to discuss long-term solutions for diabetes based issues and concerns. The event was also attended by a large delegation of experts from the UK, including members from the government, academia, research and business.

Quick stats: The event included over 600 registrations and 200+ online participants.

The organising committee is continuously consulting with domain experts and expert knowledge to ramp up the content of the programme. The programme will be split across multiple sessions covering a wide range of topics:

The following objectives will be the main focus of the summit:

  • Stage a series of scientific and technical presentations by Indian and British experts on the latest epidemiology, treatments, protocols, technological developments and innovations.
  • Identify opportunities for enhanced partnerships in diabetes education & training and research, including in curriculum development, nursing and allied health.
  • Showcase the products and services of UK commercial providers by giving them access to a wide range of clinicians, hospital promoters and decision-makers.

About Young Innovator’s Award

The Young Innovator’s Award will be presented to a healthcare professional or student achieving excellence in his/her chosen field, whether in developing a new technology/solution or authoring a reputable paper. We will use the awards to highlight emerging talent and innovation in the field of diabetes, and we expect this element of the summit to generate significant interest.

The young innovator award is an unique initiative to encourage budding talents. Young scientists below the age of 40 from clinical sciences or basic sciences in the field of Diabetology are invited to compete and send in their entries.

Structure of the Abstract:

The abstract of the scientific paper should be less than 250 words.

It should be structured under the following headings
Aims and Objectives Briefly outline why the study was undertaken
Method Type of study being reported: RCT, case control, retrospective, etc and the duration of the study period
Results Salient finding in terms of demographics, Outcomes Statistical significance (if any)
Conclusion What is the conclusion from your paper

Selection process

The papers should be submitted online. The top 5 entries will be invited to give a live presentation to an elite panel of judges on 19th January 2013. Judgement will be based on originality, experimental design, scientic / clinical value and data supporting conclusion.

Winner will be awarded

  • Rs. 50,000/-
  • A plaque
  • A 6 – week probable fellowship in a state-of-the-art Diabetes centre
