Carewalk
Carewalk, a Cancer awareness initiative conceptualized by IBHI (Indo-British Health Initiative) kickstarted on 4th August, 2013.The motive of the campaign was to create awareness amongst public regarding cancer and communicate a clear message that there is no more a reason to fear Cancer. Cancer is Curable if detected early and if expert treatment is offered, subjective to individual body response and health conditions. During the walk the message on responsibility to be borne by every individual to suspect any abnormality and take it to the immediate attention of concerned specialist in healthcare was also emphasized.The message was spread through word-of-mouth and pamphlets. Two special Photowalks, in the streets of Chennai were organized to realize the mission.
Carewalk I
The first walk from the British Council Library to Thousand lights mosque was flagged off by then British Deputy High Commissioner, Mr. Mike Nithavrianakis on the 4th August 2013, which saw close to 100 enthusiasts including photographers, cancer survivors and people from different walks of life participate.
Carewalk II
The second walk on 11th August from MIOT International to St Thomas Mount flagged off by Mr. RajivMenon – Ace Cinematographer and most acclaimed Film maker got bigger and had close to 300 people walk to the streets to spread the message. The participants involved the PhotoWalkers community and distinguished doctors and other staffs of MIOT International among many others.
Carewalk Exhibition I
35 best pictures taken during the walk (selected by Mr. Rajiv Menon) were exhibited at Hotel Hilton during the Indo-UK Oncology Summit held on 6th,7th& 8thSeptember, 2013. The exhibition was open to public as well to dignitaries who travelled across countries for the Indo British Oncology Summit, organized by IBHI.
Carewalk Exhibition II
The exhibition then travelled to the British Council Library where it was displayed from 13th to 15th September, 2013. The idea conceived by IBHI for a noble cause was welcomed and well supported by the British council.
Carewalk Exhibition III
It was then exhibited at the MIOT International during the Joy of Giving week from 2nd to 8th October, 2013. The proceeds from the sale of these pictures and T-shirts will be handed over to Mahesh Memorial Trust shortly.
The initiative was well supported by MIOT International, British Council, British Deputy High Commission, Hilton Hotels, The Hindu & ‘The Chennai Photowalk’ team who comprised the group of photography enthusiasts – Exploring the streets of Chennai documenting its history & growth.
